This national and local research based workshop is about the three main types of succession planning as a sound risk management practice, and a major, strategic, exciting opportunity for nonprofit organizations.  Participants will learn why it is crucial to be prepared for the inevitable experience of leadership change, and how succession planning is essential for the viability and sustainability of a nonprofit organization.  
 
Emphasis is on aligning succession planning with an organization's ongoing staff development, strategic planning, and its mission and vision.  Participants will gain a variety of succession planning tools and resources, identify the aspects of succession planning that are most urgent for their organization to act on, and begin developing policies and plans for utilizing them
