Government funds are an important source of support for the work of many nonprofit organizations. But this form of support carries costs and risks as well as benefits. Join us as Steven Rathgeb Smith, Director of the Nancy Bell Evans Center on Nonprofit Organizations and Philanthropy at the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington, engages us in an exploration of government funding of nonprofits, touching on the following:
- What are the trends in government funding of nonprofits? What might the future hold?
- How has government funding for nonprofits changed?
- What are the implications of government funding trends and changes for nonprofits, including pros and cons?
- What challenges do nonprofits face as they manage government contracts?
- How can nonprofits position themselves to make good decisions about pursuing government funding?
Steven Rathgeb Smith is the Nancy Bell Evans Professor of Public Affairs at the Evans School of Public Affairs, University of Washington. His areas of specialization include: Nonprofit and Public Management, Community Development and the Changing Roles of Nonprofit Organizations and Government in Civil Society.
Register no later than March 8. There is no charge for this event but space is limited.
Parking is available for a fee in the lot north of the building or innearby parking structures.
The forum is convened by the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in partnership with Milwaukee Center For Independence, The Nonprofit Management Fund and BoardStar.
