For your nonprofit to succeed, it must have a board that is committed to the mission, possesses substantial leadership skills and expertise, sets policy that guides your nonprofit's work, and evaluates both the nonprofit's mission impact and the organization with an eye toward continuous improvement. The new Building an Exceptional Board of Directors workshop will provide you with the information, tools and techniques for increasing the effectiveness of your board of directors. Topics include: emerging models and governance practices, proven techniques and approaches for board assessment, resources for enhancing board effectiveness, and designing a board development plan. All participants will receive a copy of the Compact Guide to Board Development, sample assessment forms, and other resources. The Executive Director and Board President are encouraged to register as a team for this training workshop.

Overview of proven practices, tools and techniques for enhancing board effectiveness. Participants will be able to review samples of the highlighted tools as well as share board building practices that are working for their nonprofit.
 
Diagnosing Board Problems: Getting To Root Causes
Participants will have an opportunity to analyze a number of common board problem scenarios, uncover underlying causes and discuss solutions.  The session will be an opportunity to apply proven practices, tools and techniques for enhancing board effectiveness.
 
Designing a Board Development Action Plan
Devising a board development action plan based on the results of the assessment
Recommendations for high leverage actions to enhance your board's effectiveness
Laying the groundwork for successful implementation of the action plan
The relationship between board development, overall capacity building and leadership development in your nonprofit
