DID YOU KNOW? As of the latest research—
  • The total assets of reporting charitable nonprofits, excluding Foundations in Wisconsin were $34.9 billion.
  • It is clear from the data that charitable nonprofit organizations employ far more people than is widely recognized. As of the 2nd quarter of 2004, the latest year of data available American charities employed 9.4 million paid workers.
  • Wisconsin is 13th in the number of nonprofit workers. There are more workers than in the industries of finance, real estate, wholesale trade, transportation, communication, utilities and construction.
  • 84% of the charitable nonprofits in Wisconsin had expenditures under $1 million.
  • The Wisconsin counties with the most reporting charitable nonprofits are Milwaukee, Dane, Waukesha, and Brown.
Watch for more information to be released in a report later this year by the Wisconsin Nonprofits Association.
