Come to this UW-Madison Summer Forum to examine the role and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector in advocating for the powerless. Explore joint efforts where nonprofits collaborate with government and business to advance the interests of an entire community. You'll learn about:

  • The scope of civil society and ways communities can benefit from its components
  • The role of philanthropy in supporting civil society
  • Economic issues facing nonprofit organizations
  • The delicate balance of resources necessary to provide everyone in a community access to core services.

Lead instructors: Jeanan Yasiri, executiver director, and Shep Zeldin, faculty director, UW Center for Nonprofits

Guest presenters include Scott McCallum, former Wisconsin Governor; Kathleen Woit, president of Madison Community Foundation; Barry Gaberman, senior vice president of the Ford Foundation and distinguished visiting professor at American University in Cairo; Barbara Snell, CEO of University Community Health Centers in Nashville.

This UW-Madison Summer Forum is cosponsored by UW-Madison Continuing Studies and the UW Center for Nonprofits, School of Human Ecology.
